Round 8 - Indianapolis Grand Prix
Welcome To Indy
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has existed since 1909. With a permanent seating
capacity for more than 257,000 people, it is the highest-capacity stadium-type facility
in the world.
Considered relatively flat by American standards, the oval track is a two-and-a-half
mile, nearly rectangular oval with dimensions that have remained essentially unchanged
since its inception: four 1/4-mile turns, two 5/8-mile long straightaways between the
fourth and first and second and third turns, and two 1/8-mile short straightaways,
termed "short chutes," between the first and second, and third and fourth turns.
A modern infield road course was constructed between 1998 and 2000, incorporating
the western and southern portions of the oval to create a 2.605 mile track. In 2008,
the road course was modified to replace the southwest turn with an additional infield
section, for motorcycle use, resulting in a 2.621-mile course. Altogether, the current
grounds have expanded from an original 320 acres on which the Speedway was first
built to cover an area of over 559 acres.
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a National
Historic Landmark in 1987, it currently remains the only such landmark to be affiliated
with automotive racing history.

Re: Round 8 - Indianapolis Grand Prix
This is by far my weakest track. Hands down. I'd almost pay an extra racer cold hard cash to sit off to the right as a braking point marker for the first corner. I can never get it right consistently. I ran the ZR-1 Monthly Challenge around there last night for some practice and I hope to find a nice flowing line in my normal practice car tonight. Worst case scenario I'll qualify and just stay out of the way to get a few points but I've missed the mark with last weeks absence. I hoped to be able to drop Silverstone since a sick kid kept me from racing that night but low and behold my wife schedules a night out last Saturday so I have 4 goose eggs in my list of points.
Re: Round 8 - Indianapolis Grand Prix
not sure if i'll be home in time for the race.... if you dont see me by 9 ... i aint gunna make it ...

Do you have the braking or full race line on? I use it here to help judge the braking distance for turn 1. I'll be online in a few if anyone wants to practice.

Re: Round 8 - Indianapolis Grand Prix
Mikem - I don't run any assists, including the line. I've practiced it with my S-class practice car to find different line's through there but I can't quite get it nailed down with the Mosler. I don't care if anyone else runs assists or not, I'm no elitist but I simply choose not to. It adds a layer of difficulty that forces me to know the tracks well and forces me to practice, practice, practice. I think I have it sorted out now but not by a marker, its a very non-scientific one-onethousand count after the pit wall before heavy braking for the apex. Not sure how it would work in traffic though.
Looks like, for the second week in a row, my wife won't be home in time for me to make the race. Sorry guys, no way my boys will sit quietly while I race and if they stay up until the end I'll have two very sleepy guys all day tomorrow. It really was a good series only wish it started an hour later so I could make every event.
